Celta Vigo have signed a US$2.7 million sponsorship and collaboration agreement with the Maldives tourism board, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.
Under the three-year deal, which was signed by Celta Vigo's club president Carlos Mouriño and the Maldives' minister for tourism Ali Waheed, the tourism board's branding will feature on the sleeves of the first team's playing shirts and training kit.
In addition, the club will also promote the Maldives to its fans in Europe, India and China via social media and during live their La Liga match broadcasts.
Mouriño said: "It is an honour and an enormous satisfaction for us, RC Celta, that we have been chosen to promote the beauties of their islands. Together we will make a great partnership that will bear much fruit for both of us."
Waheed added: "We would like to thank RC Celta for allowing us to bring the sunny side of the Maldives to this club. We'd like us to be the sunny side of the RC Celta from now on."
"This agreement will greatly promote tourism and sport and will strengthen the backbone of our national team and all of our country's football."
Another facet of the deal will see Celta Vigo host numerous Maldivian players in a move designed to improve their training while club coaches will travel to the islands to share their knowledge and experience.
Bassam Adeel Jaleel, the president of the Maldives Football Association (MFA), also attended the partnership's signing in Vigo.
