The agent of Douglas Maicon has defended the Inter Milan defender over demands for a pay-rise.
After seeing a move to Real Madrid fall through, agent Antonio Caliendo was quoted as saying: "I think Inter ought to show a little recognition to a player like Maicon."
The suggestion was that the club would offer a substantial pay rise, rumoured to be £7m per season.
"Maicon is happy to stay at Inter and we never asked for a pay rise," insisted Caliendo on Sky Italia television.
"We accepted President Massimo Moratti's decision, as he didn't want to sell the player.
"I want to make it clear that Maicon is not a mercenary."
