The 48-year-old Manchester City hero is the latest big name to join the Silkmen's coaching staff since Sol Campbell was named manager in October and former Manchester United striker Andy Cole became a forward's coach.
“I've got a lot of knowledge to offer, so why not?" Goater told the club's official website. “We've been talking over the past few months, but it wasn't right in terms of different things I had on, now it just feels right.
