Lyon defender Marcelo: My agent spoke with Liverpool, but...

Olympique Lyon defender Marcelo has confirmed talks with Liverpool last month.

The Brazilian was linked with the Reds as manager Jurgen Klopp sought defensive cover after suffering injuries to key players Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Marcelo has now confirmed an approach from the Reds, which eventually signed Ozan Kabak on-loan from Schalke and Ben Davies outright from Preston North End on deadline day.

Marcelo, meanwhile, says he holds no regrets and insists he's happy where he is. Indeed, the stopper says he will not be angling to leave OL this summer.

He told Canal+ via Le 10 Sport: “I have already discussed with the president, Juninho, and Vincent Ponsot about a new contract.

"I hope we will find a solution soon. Of course I want to stay. I feel very good here, I feel that I can give Lyon a little more.

"With time and experience, we will eventually find a solution that works for both parties. My agent spoke with Liverpool but like I said I feel very good here.

"I think I can win something with Lyon. My dream is to win the championship with Lyon."

Marcelo, now 33, has been with Lyon for over three years after joining from Turkey's Besiktas. So far this season, the veteran has made 24 appearances for OL, scoring twice. His current deal expires at the end of this season.

At Liverpool, Kabak has already made his debut for the Reds, though Davies is still waiting for his chance.
