Luton players concerned for Lockyer after winning Prem promotion in Coventry shootout

Luton Town have reached the Premier League after a penalty shootout win against Coventry City in the promotion playoff at Wembley today.

Jordan Clark had Luton ahead before Gustavo Hamer's equaliser with the score eventually finishing 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Luton goalkeeper Ethan Horvath saved the 12th penalty from Coventry's Fankaty Dabo to send the Hatters to the Premier League for the first time.

The club was last in the top-flight in 1992.

Before Clark's goal, Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch and was taken to hospital. The club have confirmed that he is "responsive and talking" to his family, who are with him.

Luton manager Rob Edwards said: "I feel really good, but the only thing I'm thinking about now is Tom Lockyer."

The players paraded their captain's shirt after the shootout.

Meanwhile, striker Elijah Abebayo said: "This group is special. Commiserations to Coventry, it was a hell of a battle and they pushed us all the way.

"We've said it since the gaffer has come in, he said we were going to do it but we had to believe it.

"If you look at Luton, every year they seem to improve their position in the league. I just wanted to come here and do my best and aim for days like this.

"The fans who have been here since Luton were relegated to the conference, this is for them."
