Lukas Nmecha explains quitting Man City for Wolfsburg

Lukas Nmecha has explained quitting Manchester City for VfL Wolfsburg.

The striker has joined VfL on-loan for the season.

Nmecha was born in Germany, though was raised in England. The striker has represented both countries at youth level. However, he has now committed his international future to Germany.

As such, a return to Germany made sense for Nmecha, who admits he feels he'll get a better chance of regular football with Wolves than at City.

He told BILD: "I think here I get the chance to prove myself. That's better than staying at Manchester City and maybe only playing four or five games in a season at the end.

"VfL Wolfsburg was the best team that wanted me. The club plays in three competitions, so I just want to join in."

Nmecha spent last season on-loan with Preston North End, where he enjoyed a full campaign. But leaving England for a higher level in Germany was always the plan this summer.

And the presence of Felix Uduokhai did sway his decision-making in choosing Wolfsburg as his next club. The pair helped Germany to a runners up place at this year's Under-21 European Championships in Italy.

He added: "It is nice and quiet here and I've already found many friends in the team."

Young brother Felix Nmecha remains on the books at City and is an England youth international.
