Spain coach Luis Enrique was happy with his players for their 3-1 World Cup qualifying win against Kosovo.
The Spain captain played just 45 minutes against Greece, coming off with the score at 1-1 before La Roja went on to drop two points, and then he didn't feature at all against Georgia, but Luis Enrique pointed to Ramos' recent return from a knee injury.
"It's a technical decision. He's fine, he's coming back from injury," Luis Enrique said in his post-match interview.
"I have decided that others should play, nothing more. The idea that he should play is obvious.
"The leader is a leader in all facets. He deserves to break all the records. The best players play.
"I don't care about how it looks or what you might say. I care about my team. No matter what I do or say with Sergio, it's going to provoke debate."
Unai Simon made a mistake between the sticks that allowed Kosovo to score, but Luis Enrique has taken ownership for the slip-up.
"My confidence is growing, because that's what I ask of them," he noted.
"I have zero concern about today's incident; it doesn't undermine the confidence I have in my goalkeepers at all.
"They do what we ask them to do, to help us in those situations. Mistakes are part of it."
Eric Garcia started for the third game in a row on Wednesday night, and he is clearly leaving an impression on the Spain boss.
"This is not a normal case. He gives us a lot of confidence," Luis Enrique stated.
"That's why [Manchester] City want to renew him, even if his idea is to go elsewhere. He has shown that despite not playing for his team he can be with us and help us."
