Luis Enrique frustrated by Chelsea after offering to take job immediately

Luis Enrique was left disappointed after being told to wait by Chelsea chiefs after his interview a fortnight ago.

The former Barcelona and Spain coach was willing to take the job immediately, but instead Chelsea named Frank Lampard as caretaker manager.

AS says Enrique, who left the Spain job after the World Cup, had his sights set on returning and was eager to lead Chelsea in their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

He initially held a video call with Chelsea's board just two days after Graham Potter's sacking, before he travelled to London to meet with chairman Todd Boehly and fellow directors to discuss the job and lay out his presentation.

Despite these conversations, Chelsea still opted to hold off and went with Lampard instead, leaving Enrique frustrated.
