Lucas Torreira: Why I left Arsenal for Fiorentina

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has explained his move to Fiorentina.

The Uruguay international has joined the Viola on a season-long loan. Torreira spent the previous campaign in a similar deal with Atletico Madrid, though struggled for minutes during their successful run to the LaLiga title.

Now with Fiorentina, Torreira admits part of the motivation for the move was next year's World Cup after losing his place in the Uruguay squad in recent months.

"I want to play as much as possible and help Fiorentina this season. We must continue like this. Now I will continue with a great desire to work, grow and make myself available to the coach," he told Teledoce via Fotboll Transfers.

"At Arsenal, I've lacked a bit of continuity lately, which also cost me the call to Uruguay's national team in the last part of the World Cup qualifiers."

Despite missing those ties, Torreira could see the bright side as it gave him the chance of a full preseason and to work with Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano.

He added: "Maybe it was better this way because I had more time to work in Fiorentina and fit into the coach's plans."

Torreira's deal with the Viola includes a permanent option. His contract with Arsenal runs to 2025. So far this term, Torreira has made two appearances for his loan club.
