The 23-year-old striker has scored 14 goals in all competitions for the Posh in 2015/16 including a stunning strike in their impressive 3-2 away victory at Sheffield United on Saturday.
Former postman Washington's brilliantly struck long range goal helped Peterborough deliver a famous victory over their promotion rivals at Bramall Lane, allowing them to move three points clear of Southend United into sixth place on the League One table.
It means that Washington has now converted 12 goals in his last 13 outings, including a stunning solo strike at home to Luton Town in the FA Cup last month, and his superb goal on the weekend further epitomises the confidence he possesses at present.
Washington was juggling his 'postie' duties with playing for St Ives Town in the United Counties League as recently as 2012 before Peterborough signed him in January 2014 for a hefty fee of around £500,000 from Newport County under then-boss Darren Ferguson.
It is clear that Ferguson has a special eye for scouting talent like his father Sir Alex had before him as Washington has quickly gone onto produce the goods at London Road since his arrival.
The Chatham-born attacker is rumoured to be on the radar of several Championship clubs, including Leeds United, and it is without doubt chairman Darragh MacAnthony and manager Graham Westley will want to keep hold of his talents this month as he is likely to have a key say whether or not Posh will be playing Championship or League One football in 2016/17.
