Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that defender Dejan Lovren will continue to take his game to a new level as the season progresses.

Following a difficult start to life at Liverpool, Lovren has enjoyed a sharp upturn in his performances over the last few week,s coinciding with the arrival of Klopp as manager of the Reds.

Klopp has been left very pleased with the contribution of the former Southampton star and has now gone on to state that the Croatian will only get better in the coming months.

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting with Sunderland, the 48-year-old said: "I heard the supporters were not happy with the performance of Dejan before I came. I can say nothing about this because I was not here.

"But for me, he gets better and better. The truth is he can show how strong he is. I'm not surprised about this because I knew his quality.

"I was a little bit surprised by what everybody told me about him, so I'm happy for him that he can show this."
