Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is confident that the Reds can defeat Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final.

The Merseysiders lost the first leg of the last-four tie 1-0 to an injury-time goal last week, and they will now attempt to overturn that deficit in the second leg at Anfield on Thursday.

The Croatian centre-back said: "We were disappointed when we lost the goal in the last minute to Villarreal, but in the end if you want to win you need to score.

"We need to clever and patient. I believe we have shown many times we can play when 1-0 or 2-0 down.

"I believe we can get to the final."
