Lommel SK chief Harm van Veldhoven has explained the club selling up to Manchester City.
The Belgian Second Division outfit's sale was announced last week, as they became the latest club to join the City Football Group (CFG).
CFG already has stakes in clubs playing in the United States, Japan, Australia and China, among others. City's owners, Abu Dhabi United Group, have a majority stake in CFG. Significant stakes are also held by American and Chinese organisations.
And Lommel SK are the latest club to join CFG's ever expanding network.
Van Veldhoven, who played over 200 games for Lommel, explained to AD via Voetbalzone: "Why Lommel SK? The location is interesting, Eindhoven Airport is close by. Furthermore, Belgian football has gained in image and salaries for non-EU players. We are a lot lower than in the Netherlands.
"With the financial possibilities of CFG, the future also looks bright for Lommel.
"City did not come here to count the trees in the beautiful green forest. The idea is to play for promotion in an x number of years."
Lommel were sixth in the table when the Belgian season was ended because of the coronavirus pandemic.
CFG also owns or has stakes in New York City in the US, Melbourne City FC in Australia, Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, Montevideo City Torque in Uruguay, Girona FC in Spain, Sichuan Jiuniu FC in China and Mumbai City FC in India.
