LOAN PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Norwich youngster Jacob Murphy fires Coventry top

Jacob Murphy was the star loan performer over the weekend with a hat-trick on Coventry City's win over Gillingham.

The 20-year-old forward, who is on loan from Norwich City, fired home three goals within ten minutes in the first half to help fire the Sky Blues to outright to of the League One table.

The opening goal came in the 34th minute when Murphy pounced on a horror back-pass from Adedeji Oshilaja before advancing deep into Coventry's attacking third and rounding Stuart Nelson.

Ben Turner made it 2-0 to Tony Mowbray's side three minutes later when he met Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent's in-swinging corner with a downward header before Murphy helped himself to a second in the 41st minute when he raced onto a perfect through ball from James O'Brien before once again rounding Nelson and firing home with his left foot.

The treble was completed on the stroke of half-time thanks to a barnstorming run down the left by Christopher Stokes which resulted in Murphy producing a clinical first-time finish.

Gillingham, who dropped from top to second, pulled one back in the 63rd minute through Bradley Dack but the damage had already been done at the Ricoh Arena.

The trio of goals, the first by a Coventry player since 2009, took Murphy's tally to six from 17 outings in the league for an overall total of seven from 19 appearances since arriving in the West Midlands.
