LOAN PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Man Utd striker Wilson turns it on for Brighton

James Wilson has made an immediate impact since arriving on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 20-year-old striker joined the Seagulls from Manchester United in late November, making his debut as a second-half sub for Bobby Zamora in the 2-1 win over Birmingham City that weekend.

Wilson then started for the first time in Brighton colours at The Amex on Saturday as Chris Hughton's side produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Charlton Athletic 3-2.

Ademola Lookman and Reza Ghoochannejhad had the Addicks two goals to the good after just five minutes but Wilson inspired Brighton's fight-back by procuring a stunning first goal for the Championship club.

Five minutes into the second half and the Red Devils talent picked up possession in midfield before dancing around two Charlton defenders, advancing into the area and slotting home under extreme duress to open his Brighton account in style.

That sparked a momentous occasion for the home team as Zamora fired the Seagulls level in the 83rd minute before Tomer Hemed won it with a header two minutes later.

After the match, Hughton spoke glowingly of Wilson who is sure to be a constant goal threat for the tier two table-toppers as the season progresses.

"He's a good player, what he needs is regular football and I think that's the reason why Manchester United allowed him to come here," Hughton said. "We certainly needed his goal [against Charlton].

"I think he'll be a wonderful addition for us. The reason why he brought him in is because he's got quality, he's a proven goalscorer."
