LOAN PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Liverpool starlet Canos celebrates new Brentford deal with stunning goal

Sergi Canos took all the plaudits on Monday night with a breathtaking goal in Brentford's 2-1 in over Reading.

The Spanish forward joined the Bees on loan from Liverpool at the beginning of the season with the temporary spell at Griffin Park set to expire at the turn of the New Year.

However, 18-year-old Canos signed an extension on Sunday that will see him remain with Brentford for the remainder of the Championship campaign.

The following day he celebrated by scoring a wonder goal in his side's triumph at the Madejski Stadium.

With the scores locked at 1-1, Canos superbly controlled a well-hit long ball from Ryan Woods which forced Stephen Quinn to flail to the floor before turning Chelsea loanee Michael Hector with a second touch, and then producing a left-footed pile driver beyond Jonathan Bond from the edge of the area.

To add to the goal, Canos contributed 76 minutes on Boxing Day as Dean Smith's side drew 0-0 with top four side Brighton & Hove Albion before having a major impact in the victory over the Royals which saw the London club move up to eighth on the tier two table.

Canos' strike was voted Goal of the Day on Sky Sports and created quite a stir on social media, lighting up Brentford's Twitter page.

It also prompted the club to auction of the young gun's playing shirt.

The man himself admitted he could not quite believe the quality of goal he scored, telling Brentford's official website: “I can't believe the goal.

“It wasn't me. I am so happy with the goal because it was to celebrate my loan extension.

“It was a big three points and the team needed the three points. Dean Smith is always talking about what is next. I want to enjoy the present but everything is about what is coming next."

He added: “It has been a great 24 hours because all I wanted to do was stay at Brentford.

“From day one at Brentford I have wanted to stay here until the end of the season because I am learning a lot here."

Canos certainly has a very bright future and if he can produce more of these moments of magic, he will quickly endear himself to the Liverpool faithful just as he has done since arriving at Brentford.
