Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has backed England to reach the 2008 European Championships after Saturday's defeat for Israel.

He said: "It was difficult for us. They played with more passion, more aggression, quicker than they did in the 0-0 draw in Israel.

"All the players did well - Shaun Wright-Phillips, Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole.

"Michael Owen's goal was a great finish and Emile Heskey gives them a lot of power.

"We lost because we didn't play well. I believe England will be in Euro 2008. It doesn't matter if they win or are second, they will be there and I wish them all the best."
