Liverpool are fighting a losing battle in the race for Arsenal fullback Gael Clichy.
The Daily Express says City have out manoeuvred Liverpool, who had been hoping to sign left-back Clichy, after tabling a £7million bid which was accepted by Arsenal's board last night.
Liverpool are willing to up their original offer of £5m for the France defender in order to match City's valuation, but the immediate prospect of playing in the Champions League and a £65,000-a-week contract has swayed Clichy.
His move to Eastlands should be rubber-stamped on Monday, when he returns from honeymoon.
