Liverpool will push Bayer Leverkusen to drop Kai Havertz price

Liverpool will insist Bayer Leverkusen drop their valuation for Kai Havertz ahead of the summer market.

The Independent says Havertz is among the hottest prospects in Europe having established himself in the Leverkusen first-team squad and forced his way into Joachim Low's senior Germany squad.

But Liverpool are unwilling to meet Leverkusen's demands, with BayArena chiefs eager for the bidding to start at £80m.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, sporting director Michael Edwards and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon want to ensure Liverpool stay on the right track after years of steady progress.

But they're unwilling to spend mega-money on anyone who's not seen as having the potential to have a transformative impact on Klopp's team.
