Liverpool U23 coach Michael Beale was happy to play Mamadou Sakho in their International Cup defeat to Wolfsburg.

Beale said he had a day's notice that the popular defender would be available for his squad.

“He trained with us yesterday and it was all about seeing how he felt tonight.

"We had a quick chat with 10 minutes to go and he felt fine, no problems. I thought he acquitted himself well and was unlucky not to score (a late header which hit the post)."
