Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is expected to step up his bid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez.
After missing out on Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry, who signed for Manchester City yesterday, Benitez is now set to turn to Martinez as an alternative midfield signing.
