Liverpool to hand new contracts to six senior players

Liverpool have plans to hand new contracts to six senior players.

The Reds aim to tie down another six stars to new deals after Trent Alexander-Arnold signed an extension to his contract.

The Athletic reports sporting director Michael Edwards' work has only just begun with the club hopeful of extending the deals of a host of other established members of Jurgen Klopp's squad.

Forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are prime among the players Liverpool hope to tie down to fresh deals, but their attacking partner Roberto Firmino is not in line to have his contract extended.

The trio scored 42 Premier League goals between them for Liverpool last season, but the report claims it is unrealistic that the Brazil international will be rewarded in similar vein to his African team-mates, despite his contract running out in 2023.

Goalkeeper Alisson, star centre back Virgil van Dijk and left back Andy Robertson are among the defensive options the club would like to see commit their future to the club once more.

Brazil star Fabinho completes the list of six, but reports suggest discussions with his midfield team-mate Jordan Henderson have stalled following initial talks earlier in the summer.
