Liverpool have joined the race to sign William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon.

The 23-year old midfielder has already been heavily linked with a potential summer move to Arsenal but the Liverpool Echo suggests that the Reds are showing considerable interest.

Liverpool scouts watched Carvalho in action at the UEFA U21 European Championships in the Czech Republic and would have been thoroughly impressed as he landed the Player of the Tournament award as Portugal made it through to the final where they were beaten by Sweden.

Also at the U21 Euros were Gunners scouts alongside representatives from Manchester United and Tottenham.
