Liverpool striker Diogo Jota has paid tribute to former Portugal coach Fernando Santos.

Santos was sacked by Portugal on Thursday.

Jota, who was given his international debut by Santos, said: "I cheered, as a fan, in 2016 when Portugal won the European Championship.

"I reached the national team in time to be part of the winning group of the League of Nations. I fulfilled one of my dreams when I made my debut for Portugal.

"Thank you, Mister Fernando Santos and good luck for the future."
