Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo: Man Utd thrashing proof our new-look attack has clicked

Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo feels their 7-0 rout of Manchester United is proof the new-look attack has clicked.

Gakpo struck twice, as did Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.

The Dutchman said afterwards: "Obviously it's a new front three, except for Mo, so in the beginning it's always a little bit difficult to find each other because the [previous] three – Sadio, Bobby and Mo – were really used to playing with each other.

"Then it's a new formation, you have time to adapt and I think we are getting there. We just have to keep improving, keep going, keep working hard and then it will be alright.

"I think we were just determined, eager to keep going, keep pressing them, keep scoring the goals if we got the chances. In the end, we got enough chances and everybody got the luck on their side today, so that's amazing and we could score seven. But also there are things to improve and we just have to keep going for the next games and keep winning the games."

On Andrew Robertson's assist for his first goal, Gakpo added: "It was amazing. I was on the side, even he told me, 'Go in behind.' Then I made the run, he gave a brilliant pass, I just had to take a touch inside. We practised this kind of thing a lot in training, so it's nice that you score something like that."
