Liverpool star Salah named African Footballer of the Year

Liverpool attacker Mohamad Salah has been named BBC African Footballer of the Year.

The Egyptian was handed the award on Monday night after having lead his country to qualifying for their first World Cup in 18 years.

Salah also starred for Roma in the first-half of the year before joining Liverpool in the summer, where he has continued his stunning form as he sits atop of the Premier League goalscoring charts with thirteen.

"I would like to win this award also next year," Salah told BBC Sport after receiving his award.

"I have always followed my way, and I want everyone in Egypt to follow my way.

"Since I left Egypt, in my mind, I want to be the best Egyptian ever. I work hard and try to be different from them."
