Departing Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits he signed for LA Galaxy on advice from David Beckham.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder Beckham played for the Galaxy for five years between 2007 and 2012.

"I spoke to David a few times about Los Angeles. His first couple of sentences to me were, 'Go for it. You will absolutely love it'," said Gerrard.

"To hear those lines from someone like him who I know has got my back and would give me the right advice was important. He has been there and experienced it, at a bit of a younger age than me. "He just said to me, 'Look, I've followed your career, I have played with you, I think the timing is perfect for you and your family'.

"I asked him an awful lot of questions and I did the same to Robbie Keane [Galaxy's captain] as well. Add that to the fact that LA Galaxy were very aggressive in trying to get me, there was no messing about. All the boxes were ticked."
