Liverpool's players admit luck involved after beating Newcastle

Liverpool's players admit they need to do better after victory over Newcastle United.

Liverpool went behind early before eventually winning 3-1.

Virgil van Dijk said afterwards: "We knew we were just going to have to break them down. They kept defending and waiting for the opportunities. Obviously, to go 1-0 down here was not good but we reacted the right way."

On goalscorer Roberto Firmino's performance, he added: "He is a very important player for all of us. I know how difficult it is for a defender when the striker drops his position and he is making life difficult for any defender in the world, I think. He is so good and I am very happy he is on my team."

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum also said: "We were lucky that the goal (Liverpool's first) came quite soon after theirs and after that it was not as difficult as before. They still created chances to score for 2-2."
