Despite being a target for the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid, Jonas Hector has signed a new deal at Koln to stay in the Bundesliga.

The German left back has committed the next few years of his career to Koln. He spoke about the decision after signing a deal that will expire in 2023.

Hector told Koln's official website: "It would have been no problem for me to switch to another club after this season, but it would not have felt right.

"We had many talks in the past few weeks and I had enough time to think about it. The decision for me is clear: I belong to FC and I want to go into the new season with this team and with these fans."

The decision is an interesting one given the likelihood of Koln being relegated this season.
