Former Liverpool star Phil Thompson has implored the club to quickly secure the services of Martin Skrtel.

The Slovakian centre-back said on Wednesday that the Reds' most recent offer was 'unacceptable' which has prompted Thompson to comment on the situation, urging the Anfield outfit to come to an agreement.

"The deal just needs to be done correctly - it seems strange how it's being done," he told Sky Sports.

"Skrtel has been one of Liverpool's most important players and the club should be moving things on as soon as possible."
