Liverpool match a dream draw for Augsburg because of Klopp return

Jorg Jakob of leading German sports magazine, Kicker, has revealed that Liverpool's Europa League encounter against Augsburg is huge for German football due to the presence of Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have been handed a tie against Bundesliga side Augsburg in the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 and the first leg at the WWK Arena will be contested on Thursday.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding the clash and ahead of the game, Jakob revealed that the fixture has been generating a lot of buzz in Germany as former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp gets set to return to his homeland.

Jakob wrote in Kicker: "The game at Augsburg is a huge game for German football with Jurgen Klopp's return. Everyone at the club has said it's a dream draw for them.

"They've never played an English club before and Liverpool are still a very popular team in Germany – even before Klopp – but now they're the favourites of most German fans who follow English football.

"It goes back to the myth of the 1970s and '80s and the famous atmosphere at Anfield. When the draw was made the coaching staff of Augsburg were discussing with each other 'who is the guy who is going to Anfield [for scouting] – even the manager wanted to go.

"They were joking and excited as they looked through the fixture list. I wouldn't say they were going crazy but they were all saying 'I have to be the one'."
