Liverpool manager Klopp reflects on Mainz start: It was a 'suicide mission'

Jurgen Klopp says that it was possible he would have given up on coaching if things had turned out differently after his first job.

Klopp was manager of Mainz, where he struggled at first. He was thrust into the job at just 33, with little coaching experience.

However, Klopp not only kept them in the German second division, but eventually got them promoted.

"I realised I had no experience [as a coach] but was so excited about the opportunity that the thought of getting sacked never crossed my mind," Klopp told Goal.

"I only realised years later that nobody would have ever given me a second chance if Mainz had sacked me.

"It was a bit of suicide mission."
