Liverpool have taken a massive stride towards landing Portuguese young gun Ruben Neves.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Reds have made an 'informal approach' for the FC Porto midfielder which has been welcomed by the 18-year-olds representatives.

The Portugal U21 playmaker has been on the radar of Liverpool for some time and following the arrival of Jurgen Klopp as manager, the Anfield club are set to make a serious play for his services.

It is believed that Klopp has sanctioned the move for Neves who has featured three times this season for the current Primeira Liga leaders.

Chelsea are also keen on the Portuguese wonder kid.
