Liverpool are in talks with the camp of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

ESPN says Liverpool have 'initiated' contact with De Jong as they weigh up a move for the Dutchman.

De Jong had been the subject of persistent interest from Manchester United during the summer transfer window as new boss Erik Ten Hag looked to strike a reunion with the midfielder he enjoyed a thriving relationship with at Ajax.

But the Reds have formed contact with the midfielder ahead of potentially trying to seal a move in the coming windows.
