Liverpool legend Souness convinced England on hiding to nothing against Slovenia

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness believes England players are on a hiding-to-nothing against Slovenia.

The ex-Liverpool and Scotland star blames his poor displays in Mexico 86 on the fact he had not adjusted properly to the thin air.

And he reckons England have messed up despite training in Austria and basing the training camp at altitude in Rustenburg. Souness said: "Your body is demanding oxygen.

"Your brain is telling your kidneys 'I need more EPO' which is a growth hormone which helps you produce more red blood cells, which enables you to push more oxygen through your body.

"So, for three or four weeks that's happening, so you're going down and down and down. After that, you start to recover.

"Now England are going to be at the worst possible stage they can be at for Wednesday's game.

"England have been second to most of the balls. They're never on the front foot, give the ball away, they are rundown, they're tired.

"I can't believe they have made such a mess of this. They're going to be in desperate trouble on Wednesday."
