Liverpool legend John Aldridge says Fabinho should be played in defence tonight against Chelsea.

While he is most at home in midfield, Fabinho has been used as an emergency centre-back to great effect this season.

Aldridge told the Sunday World: "The midfield and defence have suffered with all the injury problems, but on balance, I think Fabinho is most useful in the defence at the moment.

"Ozan Kabak has struggled at times since he came into the team, but it is tough for him to be thrown in there without an experienced partner.

"If he was playing alongside Virgil van Dijk, he might look very different and that's why I think having the experience of a player like Fabinho next to him could help.

"Liverpool have more options in midfield, but the centre of defence has been a problem all season for Liverpool and it is the area they need to get right in they are to have any chance of a top four finish.

"Chelsea have some dangerous forward players and the defence needs to be right for this massive game. So for me, that means putting Fabinho in defence."
