Liverpool legend Aldridge: Salah top five in the world

Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes that Mohamed Salah is one of the top five players on the planet.

Salah starred for the Reds on the weekend as they ran off with a 3-1 win against Arsenal in the Premier League, scoring two goals in the clash.

Speaking about the Egyptian in his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge wrote: "Mohamed Salah's penalty against Arsenal was as good as it gets.

"I don't think Mo's penalties have been great in all honesty for the Reds, even if he has been scoring them - but that one on Saturday was by far his best.

"Two goalkeepers wouldn't saved that! It was a perfect penalty.

"The second goal was just - well, that is just what he's all about. If you get too close to him, he will spin and once he has done that, he is away.

"He can run as quick with the ball as he can without it and on another day he would have left David Luiz with no option but to bring him down.

"The Arsenal defender was on a yellow card, so he couldn't take that risk, but that was Salah at his best.

"Salah is looking for the Golden Boot once more to make it three on the spin and he's now up to three for the season already.

"Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino looked good and that is great because they have all had busy summers. I worried that it might have taken something out of them.

"Up to now, though, the three lads up front are looking really good.

"To do it in the Premier League - the hardest one in the world, so they say - season in and season out shows just how much class Salah has.

"He has to be top five in the world, he just has to be, and as a Liverpool supporter, you just cross your fingers and hope he doesn't get injured.

"For Mo and the front three as a whole, they are so difficult to keep out the game when they are on song.

"Salah looks hungry for more and I think winning the European Cup has helped him and the whole team with that.

"Lifting the biggest prize in the game has only furthered the appetite of the squad as they have all realised what is at the end of the rainbow.

"They will all want more of it now going forward."
