Liverpool legend Aldridge: Devastated non-league clubs right to take legal action

Liverpool legend John Aldridge is upset for clubs in the region which have seen their seasons cancelled.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge said: "My heart goes out to those clubs across Merseyside who have been impacted by the decision to "expunge" non-league steps three to six last week.

"For whatever reason, that decision has been taken and that just sounds a bit strange for me. I don't know what is behind the call but I have played in some of those leagues and while I can't comment too much on it, I think they should have tried to find a way to finish it across the board - in the same way they are doing with the Premier League.

"I've read some of the non-league clubs are threatening legal action and I can see their point. I think they have a case, big time.

"It shouldn't be started from a level playing field when it resumes. Some clubs have been robbed of all the hard work they have done.

"These are the clubs that dream of getting into the football league and they have had their hard work taken away, months of it. It must be devastating for them.

"Look, we all know the most important thing is the health of the nation and that goes without saying, but some of these clubs, they are the lifeblood of their communities."
