Liverpool lean towards selling Phillips

Interest is arriving for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.

The Liverpool Echo says the defender, who shone for the Reds last year after they suffered a centre-back injury crisis, joined AFC Bournemouth on loan in January and has since helped them win promotion back to the Premier League.

Liverpool received an initial £1.5m loan from the Cherries, and will now pocket an additional £250k after including a promotion bonus as part of the deal.

Meanwhile, there is plenty of interest in Phillips with Bournemouth keen to keep the defender.

Talks will be held regarding his future following the conclusion of the season once all parties have considered their stance. And with Rhys Williams impressing Reds bosses after returning from his loan with Swansea City in January, he is poised to replace his fellow defender as Liverpool's 'fifth-choice' option at centre-back.
