Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet admits he grew up idolising Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Mignolet has named Wigan veteran Jaaskelainen as one of his inspirations, shedding light on why he didn't rival Loris Karius for the No.1 jersey.

“It's probably Jussi Jaaskelainen," Mignolet told the Premier League.

“Bit of a strange one but he always wore the 22 as a 'keeper, so that's why I always wear the 22.

“When I was younger and watching Match of the Day, he was one of the goalkeeper I looked up to the most.

“Also with me starting for Belgium, No.22 was free so I picked that one and then I never changed after that."
