Liverpool are interested in Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez.

Liverpool are keen on the Uruguay international, who is viewed at Anfield as a potential replacement for Dejan Lovren.

Veteran stopper Lovren is expected to be sold at the end of this season.

Gimenez, 25, has a contract with Atletico until 2023 and the deal carries a €120m buyout clause.

Atletico will be desperate not to lose the stopper, who is a first-choice for coach Diego Simeone, despite injury problems this season.
