Liverpool look set to miss out on Alex Teixeira after having a £24.5million bid rejected by Shakhtar Donetsk, reports the London Evening Standard.

The Reds have been told they will have to pay £53m for the 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder and any deal appears unlikely until the summer at the earliest.

Shakhtar are reluctant to let Teixeira leave this month and will only sell if a club meets the buy-out clause in his contract.
