Liverpool hero John Barnes has played down talk of taking the Wrexham job.

Barnes was installed as second favourite with some bookmakers for the vacant managerial position at The Dragons following the departure of Sam Ricketts to Shrewsbury Town.

Barnes told Sky Sports: "I've not even spoken to them and know nothing about it. I love management and want to manage but I wouldn't go into a job now during the season.

"I would go at the start, but during the season is not for me. That's a non-starter."
