Liverpool hero Didi Hamann has slammed Thiago Alcantara for his lack of availability.

The German, who won the Champions League with the Reds, has singled out Thiago for criticism all season.

Hamann is not impressed at Thiago missing so much game time, and feels the Spaniard is too lightweight to succeed in the present Liverpool midfield even when he is fit.

“Thiago, I've never been a fan of [him]," Hamman told talkSPORT.

“I don't think Liverpool is good enough to have a Thiago in the team at the moment."

“In my opinion, the Reds need to modernize the team a bit, especially in midfield," Hamann said in a recent column with Sky Sport Germany.

“I don't understand the hype about Thiago. For me he is one of the most overrated players in European football.

“When things are going well and you have a lot of possession he's a good player, but when push comes to shove you don't see him."
