Liverpool hero Hamann: Germany job is Klopp's - if he wants it

Liverpool hero Didi Hamann can't see Jurgen Klopp leaving Anfield for the Germany post.

Hamann, the former midfielder who won 59 caps for his country, believes the Liverpool boss will eventually move into international football.

But, at the age 53, he feels Klopp is so immersed in the day-to-day business of taking trophies back to Anfield that he will look to build a Merseyside dynasty first.

Hamann said: “I think it's fair to say that when the Germany job becomes available, it will belong to Jurgen if he wants it.

“He would be a popular choice because of what he achieved at Borussia Dortmund and for what he is now doing at Liverpool.

“To win the Champions League and the Premier League in successive seasons is an incredible achievement that confirms him as one of the world's elite coaches.

“But Jurgen is still quite young. I think he thrives on working with players every single day. You can tell he loves it.

“I think he would be tempted by the chance to try international football at some stage – but that is still years away.

“Only being able to get on the training pitch once every three months would drive him absolutely crazy."
