Liverpool hero Clemence warns Alisson: One good season not enough

Liverpool hero Ray Clemence has challenged Alisson Becker not to dwell on an outstanding first season.

Clemence - the only other Liverpool keeper to shut out opponents in a European Cup final - told the Liverpool Echo he believes longevity will now be the key to Alisson cementing his place among the Reds great.

"He's proved this year he's a great goalkeeper," said Clemence, who made 665 appearances for Liverpool between 1968 and 1981, winning three European Cups, two UEFA Cups, one FA Cup and five league titles.

"Truly great ones, the legends, continue to do that for the next five, 10 years.

"The word legend is thrown out without thinking, some of the players I was lucky to play with did it for six, seven, eight, 10 years - and that's why they are so revered at Liverpool.

"But he's had a great start. With foreign players, it's partly down to how long they and their families want to stay at a club."
