Liverpool legend John Barnes says Virgil van Dijk should win the Ballon D'Or.

The Dutchman was integral to Liverpool's Champions League final triumph, which included beating Lionel Messi's Barcelona in the semi-finals.

And Barnes thinks van Dijk has done enough this season to be crowned as the world's best player.

Asked on talkSPORT if the centre-back could land the Ballon d'Or later in the year, Barnes responded: "Very possibly.

"Normally when you look at the Ballon d'Or winners, they're either attacking midfield players or centre-forwards. They are goalscorers and eye-catching players.

"But there haven't been any of those types of players who have really set the world alight this season.

"So from a point of consistency and from a point of success, for me, Van Dijk would have to be the man."
