Liverpool hero John Barnes was always confident Jordan Henderson would sign his new contract.
Barnes was never concerned about the Liverpool captain leaving, however, and described the speculation as a 'storm in a teacup'.
"He had two more years, so I don't think the new contract was necessarily that important. It's good for him, in terms of the fact that he has another year, but is Jordan Henderson going to be in the team in three years time? Maybe not," he told BonusCodeBets.
"If he didn't sign a new contract he wasn't going anywhere. This is what happens in football with contracts, but I had no fears that Henderson would have been leaving the club if he didn't sign a contract.
"He'll still be influential for the next year or two. All of it was a storm in a teacup."
