Liverpool great Fowler: Elliott reaction to Leeds fans and Struijk proof of class act

Liverpool great Robbie Fowler is confident Harvey Elliott can bounce back from his heavy ankle injury.

Writing for the Mirror: "It goes without saying that I wish Harvey Elliott all the very best in his recovery from the sickening injury he suffered last week.

"To see Liverpool's teenage midfielder lying stricken on the Elland Road pitch after a tackle by Leeds' Pascal Struijk was horrifying.

"After undergoing surgery to repair the dislocated ankle and ligaments, the lad now faces a battle to get himself back to the point where he had made it impossible for Jurgen Klopp to leave him out of Liverpool's team.

"The fact that Harvey started last weekend's game at Leeds ahead of experienced campaigners like captain Jordan Henderson and James Milner illustrates just how highly he is thought of at Anfield.

"But even in his darkest moment, Elliott has proved what a class act he is.

"I didn't think the tackle by Struijk warranted a red card - and it was to Harvey's great credit that he has made it clear on social media that he doesn't blame the centre-back for the severity of his injuries.

"He even voiced his disappointment that Leeds' appeal against Struijk's dismissal was kicked out by the FA.

"Harvey even took time to applaud the home fans who clapped him as he was being carried off the pitch - and when he got to hospital he reacted to seeing a young lad being treated for a broken arm sustained in a Sunday League game by giving him his shirt and boots as a souvenir."
