Ex-Liverpool winger Mark Walters has backed Jurgen Klopp's side to win the Europa League this season.
The Reds take on FC Augsburg in the Round of 32 first leg at WWK Arena on Thursday night and Walters is of the belief that the Merseysiders can continue a strong run towards glory in Europe's second tier club competition.
However, Walters is unsure if Klopp will continue to go with the club's talented youngsters, as he has done in the cups competitions, or play a strong line-up in Germany.
"Liverpool are definitely good enough to compete for the Europa League," Walters told Sky Sports.
"It will be interesting to see if the manager rests players as the league has been the most important competition for Liverpool and the manager gets judged by that.
"But Chelsea won the competition a few years ago and it's still a great cup to win.
"The incentive of a Champions League place for the cup winners is a good reason to put a decent team out and European competitions are always great for the players because they get the chance to compete against some of the best players in Europe.
"That's what every player wants to do and that's why the best players are out of reach for a lot of teams because the Champions League is the competition the players really want to play in."
